Integrated Monitoring and Control (IMAC system)
Version 2.0
Date of Issuance: June 25, 2012
Author: Janet Barnes, Katherine Ziombra
5.1. Summary
The following SOP details the Integrated Monitoring and Control (IMAC) system, a continuous
monitoring system used to log parameters of the MERC testing platform and the vendor during
evaluations (IMAC). It includes information on how the system measures the initial challenge
water conditions and the physical parameter monitoring system used for the control and treated
tanks during evaluations.
5.2. Description of the IMAC System
The Integrated Monitoring and Control (IMAC) system allows continuous monitoring of many
parameters before, during and after a ballast water trial. The data is collected and initially stored
on a computer located in the office van on the barge, with remote backup to the offsite MERC
system. Parameters measured at the pump skid include flow, pressure and valve position
(on/off). The sampling parameters, slurry and biology augmentation system and vendor system
parameters are also logged.
5.3. HMI Features
The following features, which are not screen specific and/or are included on more than one
interface screen, shall be included.
5.3.1.
Unit Selection Switch
The unit selection switch is an on-screen control element that allows users to toggle displayed
process information between Standard and Metric units of measure. The effect of the toggle
control is limited to a single screen for a single user; changing units on one screen has no effect
on what unit system is used on other screens or by other users simultaneously logged into the
system. The feature is retentive for a user, however, such that when a specific user returns to a
screen the unit system employed will be the same as it was when that screen was last viewed.
For purposes of clarity and simplicity, some screens feature dual displays of both Metric and
Standard units at all times.
The exact units that shall be displayed for each process are as follow (Metric / Standard):
1.
Pressure: Kpa / PSI
2.
Flow Rate: m
3
h
-1
/ GPM
3.
Temperature: Degrees C / Degrees F
4.
Volume: Liters / Gallons
5.3.2. Ballast Order Telegraph
The Ballast Order Telegraph is designed to serve as a communication tool between operators and
sampling teams and to register intent of the system operators and sample teams for logging and
reporting
