3.2.3. Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Augmentation
A TSS level of
50 mg L
-1
meets the current IMO requirements. A TSS level of
25 mg L
-1
meets the current ETV requirements.
Fine-grain size Arizona Test Dust is used to increase TSS from an ambient level of 5-10 mg mg
L
-1
to 50 – 70 mg L
-1
(or greater, if requested). Each jug weighs 3.5 kg (7.7 pounds) each. The
MSDS sheet is on site.
Arizona Test Dust is available from Powder Technology, Inc., www.powder technologyinc.com,
4331 Ewing Avenue, South, Burnsville, MN 55306, Ricardo Ayaquica 952-894-8737
3.2.4. Particulate Organic Carbon (POC) Augmentation
ETV protocols require a POC concentration of
4 mg C L
-1
. IMO protocols require a POC
concentration of > 5 mg C L
-1
.
To increase the average ambient POC concentration of < 1 mg C L
-1
, micronized humate, also
known as Micromate is used. The MSDS sheet is on site.
Micromate is available from Mesa Verde Resources in 30-pound bags:
P.O. Box 1368, Placitas,
NM 87043 (
www.humates.com/mvrmicromate.html
).
3.2.5. Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) Augmentation
ETV protocols require a DOC concentration of
6 mg C L
-1
. IMO protocols require a DOC
concentration of > 5 mg C L
-1
.
To increase the average ambient DOC concentration of 3-4 mg C L
-1
, MERC uses
Camellia
sinesis
in the form of Nestea (100% tea), decaffeinated, unsweetened, ice tea. (As required by
NRL). This tea is currently purchased locally in 3 oz. jars.
