View Mode Function. The Piping screen includes a feature that provides users with
detailed information regarding system line-up for various modes of operation. In order to
access this information, the users select from the following list of Modes:
o
None

Flow Through Testing
o

When any Mode other than ‘None’ is selected, the piping diagram is highlighted in black to
indicate the flow path for that Mode. Any valves that are noted by the system as being in the
wrong position for that Mode will blink to indicate that they need to be moved in order to
achieve the correct line-up. Piping that may or may not be included in the flow path for that
Mode (such as the Treatment System) is highlighted in green. View mode selections are not
global; the selection of any view mode on one interface has no effect on any other interfaces that
may be simultaneously logged in to the system.
The vernacular that evolved during the development of the IMAC System on the T/S Golden
labeled specific piping line-ups as Modes, while operational conditions (e.g. recirculation vs.
actual sampling operations) are termed ‘Cycles’. Modes are associated with the Piping views,
while Cycles are associated with the Ballast Order Telegraph. This vernacular has been carried
through the MERC IMAC System.
5.4.3. Table Screen
The table screen is essentially a repackaging of the same information described in the View
Mode function description above, with an additional qualifier of the ballast pump status. This
screen lists all valves and the two ballast pumps in table form. Selection buttons at the top of the
screen allow users to select a specific Mode. Once a mode is selected, the table updates to list
the expected disposition of each valve/pump for that mode, and indicates whether or not each
element is set to achieve that specific mode.
