If any of the probes are not recording properly you need to record the values that they are reading
on the Post-DF Calibration Sheet and tell the other members of the lab. Submerge all the probes
in their respective standards and record the values on the back of the Calibration sheet (sheet is
labeled: 6600 EDS Post DF-Calibration Sheet) and activate Run mode in EcoWatch (Not in the
Calibration mode) and record the values. Rinse and dry the probes between standard
submersions. These values can be used to adjust the dataflow data that was recorded in the field
and or indicate if a probe went bad.
6.3. YSI-6600 V2-4 Calibration Methods
Sondes are calibrated prior to the uptake portion of a testing event. During calibration, all pre and
post calibration readings are recorded on a calibration datasheet and stored in the YSI sonde
calibration log.
6.3.1. Standard Preparation
Gather all of the necessary calibration standards, calibration rinses, and calibration cups. All
standards must be a room temperature for an accurate calibration. Pour adequate amounts of
standard into the designated cup and cover with a large KimWipe (see Table 6.2)

6.3.2. Specific Conductivity
MERC uses YSI Incorporated 10,000 µS cm
-1
± 1.0% tolerance conductivity calibration solution.
Fill calibration cup with enough standard so the conductivity probe is submerged. MERC
calibrated with the sonde inverted to cut down on the amount of standard used. Sample rinse the
sonde probes with solution used during last calibration procedure. Attach calibration cup with
standard onto the sonde and run the calibration procedure in EcoWatch.
Under the Calibrate menu choose Conductivity, then SpCond, and 1-point. When prompted type
in ‘10’ for standard solution used and hit Enter. On the computer, wake up the program, type
“10” and hit Enter. Allow at least 1 minute for stabilization. Once stable, hit Enter again and
record the pre and post cal readings. When done, zero out to main menu. Rinse with DI water.
6.3.3. pH 7 and 10
MERC uses YSI Incorporated pH 7 and pH 10 buffer solutions. Fill calibration cup with enough
standard so the pH probe is submerged. Sample rinse the sonde probes with solution used during
last calibration procedure. Attach calibration cup with standard onto the sonde and run the
calibration procedure in EcoWatch.
