6.2.5. Data Retrieval
With paper towel, remove all moisture from around sonde-port cap. Remove sonde-port cap and
attach the communications cable to both the sonde and either a YSI 650 datalogger or a laptop.
Communicate with sonde to end unattended sample logging session. Using the YSI
Ecowatch
program, upload desired files to the laptop to check data for anomalies, such as spikes or broad
swings in any parameter. Steady but slow change is expected of some parameters, such as
declining DO.
After the data have been uploaded, export it the text into Excel in comma-delimited format.
Open the file in Excel and save it as an Excel file.
Note: Do not delete the data in the sonde itself until this data has been double-checked to assure
it successfully downloaded to the laptop. Best practice is to leave data on the sonde until
calibrating for the next deployment. Back up the files to the MERC network as soon as possible.
6.2.6. Post-deployment Procedures
Place sonde on a ring stand or in bucket, remove the calibration cup and blot away any water
droplets on the D.O. membrane (and look for cuts/bubbles in membrane), , optics, pH bulb, etc.
Replace the cup but keep it loose (2 or 3 threads).
Run EcoWatch in discrete sampling mode for 5-minutes to check for anomalies in DO data; DO
data should be approximately 100%.
Remove the calibration cup, rinse it out with a little DI water then fill it up a little over half-way
with DI water and submerse all the probes (or use the tall beaker not labeled for anything.) You
may have to adjust the level of DI so all the probes are covered (make sure the Temp/Conduct.
Probe is completely covered) but you do not over flow. Replace the cup but keep it loose (2 or 3
threads). Wrap the black foam around the cup/beaker and the Sonde. Let it run for at least 5 min.
to stabilize and compare the values of the probes to the zero (0) calibrations done before going
out in the field.
Check to see if
:
§
The date and time are correct
§
Temperature remains stable. If temperature is not working it will be obviously
reading wrong and needs to be replaced.
§
Sp.Cond is close to 0
§
DO% while submerged is not sporadic. If the DO readings are sporadically going up
and down there is a slit in the membrane and this needs to be noted, see below. (the
DO% should have read close to 100% before submerged - see above.)
§
pH is close to 7.0 and does not drift significantly
§
Turbidity is close to 0
§
Chlorophyll is close to 0
